I Swallowed A Bone. Should I Be Concerned ?
I was eating pork ribs tonight and accidentally swallowed a flat piece of bone (probably a couple of centimeters wide) that had flaked off. Since then, I ve had pain near the middle of my breast bone. I ve been drinking water and ate a piece of bread. I m swallowing fine, no vomiting, etc., just have the pain in my chest . I ve been burping a lot though, which intensifies the pain. Should I be concerned?

Consult your ENT specialist as soon as possible get an x-ray or CT scan done to rule out any impaction of the bone in the esophagus. Do not neglect.

No not at all , the esophagus is elastic i mean distensible , a few cm bone at the maximum can produce some abrasion kind of injury to the esophagus , thats wt producing pain . if 1 or 2 days have passed ur out of danger.gradually pain wil reduce as d healing process advances .
Its clear that it hs nt stucked any where in esophagus , and once it reaches the stomach , definitely it gets digested.

Immediately consult an ENT surgeon, and get a barium swallow done.
Doctor will also do fibre optic laryngoscopy.
In the mean time, take tab ambroxol 75 mg once a day for 3 days.

What type of Pain is it? Is it Pricking or Stabbing? What is your Age and Gender? If there would be anything related to Swallowing of a Bone, it could be vomiting, and sometimes breathlessness. Do not worry, it will get digested gradually. Since you don't have any of these, it could be a simple gastritis or costochondritis. You should be getting yourself examined by a ENT Specialist to rule out any Foreign body in your respiratory tract. You may want to take few antacids and drink plenty of water. If you are above 40, Kindly get a EKG done to rule out any heart problem.
