Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was stung by a yellow jacket between the first and second knuckle of my left ring finger. The sting occurred about 3 hours ago. The finger instantly started to swell and was nearly twice the diameter of the other fingers within 15 minutes. I am not able to bend it due to the amount of swelling, despite icing it within minutes of the sting for an hour. The ice helped tremendously with the pain at the sting site, but not the swelling. now I have significant pain in my arm and even worse pain in my armpit. I have never been allergic to bees, but I have experienced an increase in pain & swelling the last 4 times I have been stung. To note, my mother and one of my sons are allergic to bees. We live very remotely and the nearest hospital is almost 2 hours away. Should I be concerned at this point with the amount of pain and swelling? FYI- I also have liver problems and am unable to take most medications. Any suggestions?
