Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I woke up gasping for air the past two nights. It was absolutely terrifying. As if my body forgot to breathe and then suddenly remembered. I decided I might need to rule out sleep apnea, due to a few friends advice explaining it can be very serious. The problem is I am breastfeeding a 2 month old baby and must feed or pump every 2 hours. I tried skipping a few times at night but it clogged a duct, so really do not wish to do that again. In order to rule out sleep apnea I know a major part is the sleep study. This would be impossible for me to do even if I did not wake to feed my baby, I also have another child to care for. My husband is away (firefighter) and I have no parents or close family to watch my children. I know most times they do the study in a lab. I did read they can do it at home but again, breastfeeding. Is there any way to rule out apnea with a shorter sleep study? Does it have to be a full 8 hours? I am afraid to fall asleep and praying it's something else..
