my LDL is 300 HDL 88 and Tryclerides 44 440 total cholesterol I smoke marijuana at night to sleep I am 52 always had high LDL but this was outrageous! I am fit do yoga and eat clean. I smoke to sleep better. since going through menopause. Is the pot increasing my LDL and do I take a statin to get it down and stop smoking?
Hello, Thank you for trusting HCM. There are no clear scientific evidence on how smoking pot is linked to cholesterol levels and in that case to LDL. But smoking in general is linked to high blood pressure and other well known health problems. Yes it is advised that you start on statins, to lower your LDL and to start diet modification by avoiding oily fatty dishes. visit your doctor for a check up and for precise statins medicine perscription that will help in your case. Kind regards, Dr. Ahmad
Statins would be best to control your LDL and cholesterol. doing regular exercises as well as improved diet would also prove helpful. Please, stop smoking as this with high cholesterol increase the chances of having heart disease and many other cancers. If you could also stop taking marijuana, it would be very helpful though marijuana is not the cause of this.
I hope this helps. I wish you well.
