Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I'm 64 and I had my yearly colonoscopy last week. (My mother had colon cancer at age 37 so I had genetic testing done and was diagnosed deleterious mutation on my MLH1 gene, Lynch Syndrome.) My doctor removed an 11mm polyp this time. It came back benign thank goodness, but he wants to see me next week for a follow up because he said this type of polyp is a "high risk" one. It was in the traverse colon at 70cm from the anus. A single-piece polypectomy was preformed using a hot snare over a saline pillow. He also tattooed the location. I've had other small benign polyps that were removed during other colonoscopies and am wondering why I need this follow up with this particular polyp since it's benign. What is a high risk begin polyp? Thank you.
