Impacted Wisdom Tooth That Needs To Be Extracted, Have Constant Headaches, Ear Pains. Immediate Surgery Needed?
Hi, I have one horizontally impacted, full bony wisdom tooth that needs to be extracted. I visited my dentist a year ago who said I could wait for surgery as I was breast feeding at that time. Now I am experiencing constant headache and ear pains. Should I get the surgery done immediately or can I wait for 2-3 months so I can get my parents to visit me to help with my 3 kids while I m recovering??
When there is not enough space for wisdom teeth to erupt, then the tooth becomes impacted. Impacted wisdom tooth can lead to headaches.Impacted wisdom tooth can causes severe pain which may also be radiating to head and neck region and causes pain and swelling of the jaws. Impacted wisdom tooth can also lead to crowding of front teeth and bad breath and difficulty in mouth opening. If wisdom teeth are impacted, then you can get them removed. Surgical tooth extraction is done for impacted wisdom tooth. Wisdom teeth don’t aid in mastication and are susceptible to infections so they are removed
Hi and welcome,
Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to erupt in the oral cavity and they are often impacted in bone. Horizontally impacted teeth have almost no chances of erupting straight or vertical in the oral cavity.
As you have been waiting for a year now , i suggest you to get the tooth extracted surgically approaching your dentist.
There is no use waiting unncessary if the tooth is causing you pain and discomfort, because such impacted teeth may disturb the adjacent teeth, lead to caries , infection and bone loss ,they may radiate pain to ear and neck if kept for long so better get it removed.
It is a minor surgery done under local anesthesia, and the wound after extraction is sutured in position for faster healing ,you just have to follow the course of medication and post extraction instructions so go for it.
take care.
Hi,
Thank you for the query.
Impacted wisdom teeth leads to radiating pain leading to headache and ear pain .In case of horizontal impactions the pressure on the adjacent teeth increases which causes severe pain and there are no chances of eruption in to normal occlusion as it is impacted . I would suggest you to get your teeth removed surgically as early as you can to avoid further progression of infection leading to pain.
Hope this information helps you.
