Hi
Thanks for your query to Health Care Magic
Following are the criteria’s for a baby to be diagnosed as obese:
1. Weight more than 120% of expected weight for height.
2.
Body Mass Index (BMI) more than 30 kg/m2 (BMI = Weight in kg/(Height in meters)2, and
3. Excessive accumulation of fat in
subcutaneous tissue and other organs.
For a baby to be diagnosed as obese all the above 3 criteria’s needs to be fulfilled.
Weaning is gradual introduction of semi-solids and solids in baby’s diet apart from breast milk, to meet their growing demands, usually at 4-6 months. Kindly note weaning is a complementary process and not the discontinuation of breast feeding which should be continued as long as possible. If the mother has some genuine problems with breast feeding only then it should be replaced with top feeds.
As you said baby is not drinking milk at all and rarely drinks water, it is important that she needs to be evaluated for her hydration status by a
pediatrician. Pediatrician can also suggest about the diet plans for your granddaughter.
Hope that answers your query
Take Care :)
