Infant Given Vaccinations For Rotavirus And PCV. Are These Safe?

Hi doc,

My baby will be 3 months old on 13/02.I have already give the 1st dose of optional immunisation for rotavirus and pcv.now I am getting all mixed reviews for both and want to discontinue it going forward. Will it be ok to not continue with the optional vaccinations going forward.pls reply on YYYY@YYYY .

Hi,

Rotavirus and PCV are optional vaccine due to the fact that it leads to morbidity and not necessarily mortality also the cost factor is an issue.So a lot of parents avoid it.But it does have a lot of protective advantages against the most common cause of diarrhoea and pnuemonia.

However if you wish to discontinue it it will not have any consequence on the child health however the previous doses will be non effective in protecting your child from the above mentioned illness due to incompletion of the dose schedule.
