Infant Has Vomiting, Hypertrophic Pyloric Stenosis. Done USG. Pyloromyotomy Needed. Should We Delay Surgery?
My son(3months old) was vomitting forcefully after every feed for the last 20 days, our paediatrician said its a case of stomach infection, all the medicine she had prescribed couldn't ease the vomitting finally we changed to another paediatrician but all in vain. browsing on the internet for the symptoms i suggested the doc to do a USG which showed hyperthropic pyloric stenosis (thk 8mm, length 14mm). Upon several more doctor hunting it was finally decided that surgery (pyloromyotomy) is the only option. For the past one week the vomitting has completely stopped, he is gaining weight during this period slowly (although he was born prematurely 2.2Kg at 8 months) his present weight is 3.65kg with an average weight gain of 20-30grams per day. The surgeon has requested to delay the surgery and asked us to wait and watch. SHould we avoid the surgery and just ignore the USG report or is there any non surgical medicine???

Infant Has Vomiting, Hypertrophic Pyloric Stenosis. Done USG. Pyloromyotomy Needed. Should We Delay Surgery?
Hi, Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic. Hypertrophic pyloric stenosis presents with persistent vomitings in spite of any medication and is associated with no weight gain. Surgery is the only available option. As the pediatric surgeon is advised to wait, observe the child for some time. Repeating the ultrasound will be a good option. Hope I have answered your query. Regards.
