Infant Having Fever And Vomiting. Is It Normal To Have Cold Feet And Hands While Having Fever? Viral Infection?
My daughter is 18 mths old and the day before she threw up and started to have fevers. Its been two days she has felt feverish. I have noticed now that she gets feverish after the medicine wares off but her hands n feet now seem cold . Is this normal? There has been a viral going around lately. My doctor says to keep getting the medicine but its been two days now? What should i do? Very concerned mother.
Hello
I would be pleased to answer your question .
It is a normal phenomenon to see that hands and feet remaining cold as the blood flow as a mechanism is directed to the more central organs of the body . The peripherals like the hand and feet get less blood flowing and this compensatory mechanism results in cold feet and hands.
I would advice her to give her the fever medicine , give her cold sponges , keep her hydrated and you can even put her under a fan to reduce the body temperature .
make sure that you monitor her temperature and look out for any change in her behaviour , dizziness , vomiting . You should take her to the doctor if she gets any of the above .
