Infant Passes Stools With Foam, Gets Rashes On Bum On Passing. Takes Banana, Iron And Multivitamin Drops. Cause?
Hi, My baby is 4 months old.He is passing stool with foam and when he is releasing that he is getting rashes on his bum and his bum is becoming so red.We started keeping banana since 2 days. Also we are feeding packet milk and im also giving breast feed. We are using iron and multivitamin drops for him. Could you please suggest what could be reason for his foam stool and rashes on his bum.
Hi,
The rash and redness can come from repeated cleaning of stools.
Use gentle wipes or wet cotton gently to clean.
If you are using diapers, expose the child in between to air.
For foamy stools if it persists,go to the doctor and get the baby examined.
Also avoid packet milk till 1 year of age at least and if breast milk is not enough give some tinned infant milk.
All the best
Foam stools with rashes may indicate a malabsorption disorder. A stool test will help in arriving at a diagnosis. Since you are also giving formula feeds, improper hand washing and unhygienic measures can result in stool infections which can be a cause of altered stools. Also lactose intolerance can lead to peri anal excoriation which results in reddish rashes which you mentioned.
I would suggest if your breast milk is adequate, you should exclusively breast feed him till at least 6 months of age. This avoids any infection that may occur due to formula feeds.
Please get a stool test done in the meantime. After cleaning the affected area with soap and water, tap it dry with a clean towel and apply siloderm cream over the affected area twice daily for 4-5 days.
