Infant Suffers From Hydronephrosis. Need To Do VCUG Test?
Hi, my son is 6 months old and he has hydronphrosis in both kidneys, the right kidney has improved but the left still has the same problem, I found out he has this problem when I was still pregnant then when I gave birth we had ultrasounds every 2 to 3 months, the report said the left kidney has mild to moderate, so I was wondering will this go after he's older? do I need to do this vcug test? or can this wait? Thank u
The VCUG will inform the doctor about any possible blocks that may have caused the hydronephrosis, such as posterior urethral valves, for example. Hence, I strongly recommend going for this test as soon as possible. Delay will cause further damage to his kidneys. Please ask the doctor to run a 99m Tc DMSA scan first to see how much damage has already occurred, and, if possible, a MAG scan to see how much obstruction is already present and what is the amount of delay in excretion of urine/injected dye from the more affected kidney.

P.S. As the terms in the answer are technical in nature, the best thing will be to copy the answer and approach your son's doctor with the answer. Thanks.
