Infant With Fever And Cough. Prescribed With Livolin. Can Febrex And Tixylix Be Iven?
Hi Docs, My son is 3.5 month old and had fever 5 days back...doctor advised Crocin and with just one dose fever went away....but know since 3 days he is coughing and does not look like dry cough...on checking with doc his chest is clear and doc suggested tixylix syrup, febrex plus drops...on checking with another doc he suggested livolin syrup as per him tixylix will suppress cough...So can anyone advice which medicine should be more helpful for my sone
Livoliin contains bronchodilators and is prescribed if there is bronchoconstriction. Your son seems to be having cough due to upper respiratory tract infection rather than due to bronchoconstriction. Hence giving Tixylix would be advisable.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
Monitor for the following in a child with cough.
1. Rapid breathing.
2. Chest indrawing while breathing.
3. Abnormal noise while breathing.
4. Nasal flaring
5. Bluish discoloration of fingers (cyanosis)
6. Irritability or lethargy
If your baby has any of these you should consult your doctor immediately
As far as those medicines are concerned you should consult your doctor.
Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
Hi
Thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
medication will depend upon type of cough.
In case of dry cough tixylix will help as it has pholcoidine and promethazine In case of spasmodic cough levolin will help which has levosalbutamol which is a bronchodilator.
