Hello and thanks for the query
In my personal opinion your antibiotic is not effective on the bacteria that is causing infection. You may need to change the antibiotic to a effective antibiotic which is more effective and able to control the infection. If their is any discharge of pus or any kind of fluid than send it for culture examination. Culture examination helps you in selection of the antibiotic. You may also need a small surgical procedure I & D if the infection is severe and there is abscess formation. It is better to consult a surgeon for further opinion.
Hope this will help you.
Best wishes

Hi,
Thank you for the query.
Its not normal as an infected cyst can lead to other complications by spreading I would advise you to take an x-ray of the area where the cyst is present , to know the extent of the cyst and rule out the cause for its formation.See your dentist .
This has to be treated by surgical enucleation or marsupilazation which is followed by a course of antibiotic and analgesics.
Hope this information helps you.

hi and welcome,
Cysts in the jaws may need surgical intervention like enucleation or marsupialization.
Reoccurence is common among the cysts of jaws , The above procedures will remove the cystic sac along with its lining from the involved tissue to prevent reoccurence.
Infection to the cysts may lead to formation of abscess , swelling and pain. Abscess if not treated in time may spread to adjacent vital structures and spaces of neck
i suggest you to have antibiotic amoxycillin with clavulate 625mg 2 times daily along with analgesics to subside the swelling and pain till you approach an oral surgeon.
take care.

Dear friends,
Thanks for sharing your concern.

Cyst in the jaws requires surgical treatment like enucleation or marsupialization based upon size.

Recurrence is seen in most of the cases that is why surgical intervention is needed.

The above procedures will remove the cystic sac along with its lining from the involved tissue to prevent recurrence.

Infected cyst may lead to abscess formation.

Abscess if not treated in time may spread to adjacent vital structures and spaces of neck which is more dangerous.

I would suggest you to have antibiotic amoxycillin with clavulate 625mg two times daily along with analgesics to subside the swelling and pain till you approach your dentist.

Hope it helps.
Take care.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. Saurabh Gupta's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query,
The most common and beneficial treatment for cysts is excision or removal of the cyst. Before removing the cyst, the dentist or oral surgeon generally performs a biopsy, which involves the removal of a small portion or piece of tissue from the questionable cyst.
Anyone who has noticed or been diagnosed with a cyst in any portion of the oral cavity will benefit from its removal. If left untreated, cysts may cause ensuing infection or spread of infection to surrounding teeth, gum, or other mouth tissues.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful

hello there,

Dental cysts may arise from the periapical lesions of the infected tooth or from the periodontal infection arising from gums or alveolar bone .

Such cysts needs to be treated surgically by enucleation or marsupialization , the procedure remove the cystic lining completely to prevent its reccurence.

Oral medication will give temporary relief and will help in reducing the inflammation , you need to consult an oral surgeon for the treatment.

i would suggest you to get an OPG radiograph done which will show the area of damaged tissue ,involved teeth and the underlying bone , accordingly the cyst is removed surgically.

i hope this helps,

take care.

A cysts can form in any part of jaw and it can quickly expand damaging the jaw bone .
It can be caused by dental trauma , injury and build up of plague and calculus .

Get an OPG done
Get complete mouth scaling and polishing done
Use saline water gargles 3-4 times a day .
Use 0.2% of chlorhexidine mouthwash gargles twice daily .

treatment depends upon the type of cyst , mainly it is drainage of abscess from the infected cyst .

Dentist Dr. Neha Sumra's  Response
Hi
Welcome to HCM

Cyst formation is not a normal process. It occurs due to some trauma or infection.
To get it treated you need to get an O.P.G done of associated area.
It also requires biopsy of same region.
Cyst removal is necessary & should be done by marsupilization & enucleation.
It should be followed by antibiotics & analgesics.

Consult your dentist as soon as possible & get it treated.

Take Care

Dentist Dr. Neha Gupta's  Response
Hello,
I am Dr.Neha Gupta (dentist) and am glad to address to your query here.

The treatment your dentist or oral and maxillofacial surgeon will recommend for a dental cyst depends on the location, type and size of cyst. Ideally, dentists or oral and maxillofacial surgeons want to remove the cyst tissue to:
Examine it,
Help the tissues to repair themselves
To prevent another cyst from forming.
This is often done in combination with other treatment of the tooth (or teeth) associated with the cyst.
Usually, the cyst is removed by surgery. An oral surgeon usually does this procedure under local anesthesia. If the cyst is infected, you may be given antibiotics.

Take care and please keep me informed of your progress at healthcaremagic through my profile directly.
