Inflamed Colon Due To Diverticulitis. Abdominal Bloating, Diarrhea Due To Antibiotics. Can I Take Acidophilus?
I am a 76 year old male and I just experienced an inflamed colon due to diverticulitis I have blotting on one side of my belly. My doctor prescribed Cipro 500 mg & Flagyl 500 mg along with a clear liquid diet, which I have been doing for the last 2 days this being my 3rd day. I am expereinceing diaria probably from the antibiotic. My question is could I take Acidophilus to help the diaria or should I take antigaz - although it promotes some bacteria- Please let me know what to do to releive the diaria. Thank you Jim
Acidophilus (or any other probiotic) will be fine. Just remember to make a 30 min break between an antibiotic and Acidophilus. If your diarrhea will last longer than 48 hours or any blood in stool will appear, you should visit your doctor and have stool tests done. Please note that diverticulitis is a serious condition which if recurs should be treated with surgery. The part of large intestine with diverticles should be removed, otherwise there is a serious risk of perforation.
Hope this will help. Regards.
