Injured Finger, Swollen, Tender. What Is Trigger Finger?
Hi I caught my pinky finger on the door jam when I was running to the ladies room at home. So essentially my finger went out to the side and my body kept going forward. I put ice on it right after it happened but for only about a total of 15 min. It s been about 7 days now & it s gotten more swollen and it s very tender at the base of my finger. It s hard for me to make a fist & to just stretch out my finger I finally went to the doctor after the 6th day and I was told I have trigger finger after looking at what trigger finger is I think my doc was incorrect I am being sent toa specialist but my appointment isn t for a week what can I do to help it before my appointment?
your right it doesn't sound like a trigger finger. a trigger finger does not usually occur in response to an injury but spontaneously. a trigger finger is due to a swelling on the flexor tendon that causes the finger to get stuck in flexion and then trigger or pop straight usually with a little pain. your story makes in sound more like you dislocated or fractured you little finger. you should have an X-ray. if your finger looks straight and feels stable then often strapping it to the ring finger with tape can help with the pain - we call this buddy strapping. it is really important in the hand to keep the joints moving to stop them getting stiff.
