Intense Pain In Shin, Cannot Get Relief From Norco. Had A MCL Injury Earlier. Is This Related ?

I had a mcl injury about 3 or 4 months ago. I went to physical therapy and it seemed to get better, but now I have this intense pain in my shin. I cannot get any relief, even from norco which I take for a very bad spine. I am 72years old,so I didn't get the mcl from playing football. I am a little worried about bone cancer, or is it just the aftermath of the injury? I've been exercising in my daughters pool lately. Any answers would sure be appreciated. Thanks AAAAA

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

In general, incomplete tears of the MCL are treated with
*temporary immobilization
* use of crutches for pain control
* Isometric, isotonic, and eventually isokinetic progressive resistive exercises are begun within a few days of subsidence of pain and swelling.

if the knee is not too painful, a hinged brace is used, and quadriceps strengthening exercises and straight leg raises are encouraged after few days.

I don't think there is any connection or relationship between MCL injury and your shin pain.

Majority of the bone cancers in the early stags are PAINLESS with few exceptions.

Anyway, taking into consideration your age (72yrs), its always better to get an evaluation done.

Please consult an orthopedic surgeon and follow his advice.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
