I would have preferred to know the new birth control you are using, but one of the most common symptoms menstrual irregularities is birth control pills, devices, etc.
Although, pregnancy should always be ruled out in such cases. You will have to conduct a home pregnancy test at least 2 weeks after you last sexual contact which will be the suspected date of conception, using an early morning urine sample which will yield the most accurate result, being most concentrated. You might have to repeat this every alternate day 2-3 times to get a confirmed result.
Once pregnancy is ruled out you can blame the new birth control for the irregularities, which will have to be reported to your doctor.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
