Is 221 On A Scale Of 0 To 190 On CPK Test Cause For Concern?
I am a 55 yr old African American, 5'10" and 215 lbs. My CPK results were recently taken with 221 on a scale of 0-190. Is it possible to get a false positive? Should I continue weight lifting or participating in aerobic exercise while waiting to see my Dr? I am a test pilot and former Marine Officer in good shape
Thank you for your question on HCM. CPK is marker of muscle damage. CPK MB is specific for heart muscle and brain. So total CPK can be slightly high in athletes and persons who do regular exercise. So no need to worry about this report. CPK MB raised in myocardial ischaemia and damage to myocytes like myocarditis. So relax about this report.
