Is 500mg Of Cephalexin A High Dosage For A Teenager?

My 13 year old grandson has a severe skin infection from insect bites. The doctor diagnosed impetigo, and prescribed 500 mg of Cephalexin 2 capsules twice daily. That seems like an extremely high dose for a slim boy. There are 40 pills in the bottle so it is a 10 day course of antibiotics. is that harmful?

That says your grandson, 13 years old , is taking 1 gm of Cephalexin twice a day--2 grams per 24 hours. I agree with your concern, this is a high dose in my opinion. It would be good if you could consult another dermatologist for the boy's skin infection, and get correct treatment.
