Is AKT 2 Intake During Pregnancy Advisable?

One year back I was diagnosed with tuberculosis so my doctor gave me 60 streptomycin injections (1 per day) and prescribe me AKT 4 for 3 months, AKT 3 for next 3 months and AKT 2 for next 6 months. I have completed my AKT 4 for 3 months, AKT 3 also for next 3 months and still taking AKT 2 since last 5 months(total duration of AKT 2 is 6 months) 1 month left. Now I found out this month that I’m pregnant. Some doctors suggest me to continue my medicine(AKT 2) for the remaining 1 month while the other one ask me to stop taking AKT 2 as I have had enough and it would not be good for the baby. Please advice !!! Thanks

Hi,

Taking AKT 2 during pregnancy is not advisable without consulting with a healthcare professional, as it can have potential risks for the developing fetus. AKT 2 is a combination of medications used to treat tuberculosis, and some of the drugs in it may not be safe for the baby. If you have been taking AKT 2 and have just found out that you are pregnant, you should immediately inform your doctor about your pregnancy. They will assess your condition and recommend the best course of action for you.

In general, TB medication is often continued during pregnancy, as untreated TB can be harmful to both the mother and the baby. However, the exact medication regimen will depend on several factors, including the stage of pregnancy, the severity of the TB, and the potential risks and benefits of the medications. Your doctor may recommend that you switch to a different medication regimen that is safer for the baby, or adjust the dosage of your current medication. They may also recommend additional monitoring and tests to ensure the health of both you and your baby.

It is important to follow your doctor's advice closely and to take all prescribed medications as directed. Do not stop or change your medication regimen without consulting with your doctor, as this can lead to complications for both you and your baby.
