Is Acyclovir Advisable For Stinging Pain In The Lower Arm?

My husband is experiencing an intermittent stinging pain in his lower arm, several times starting yesterday. He saw a nurse who said it may be shingles but they need to wait for the rash to be sure. Meanwhile, which would you recommend: 1) getting shingles vaccine, or 2) starting acyclovir?

hi
thanks for writing to HCM
At the outset is the stinging pain associated with any rash.Though the location specifies to herpes but we should be clear for any rash.More over since we are already having the pain; vaccine as of now suspecting a herpes will be of no use.The pain is a typical nerve pain and spreads along a single side distribution of the nerve(dermatome)
Moreover acyclovir topical cream can be tried, namely herpes ointment. Please consult your treating doc for prolonged symptoms,be careful as it also spreads to others.
hope this helps
most welcome for further queries
