Is Adderall XR Safe For The Treatment Of ADD In A Child?

My 6 year old son has bicuspid aortic valve since birth. He was recently diagnosed with ADD and has been prescribed Adderall XR 5 MG. Is it safe for him? Are there any precautions or thing things I need to watch for when I give it to him the first time?

Hi,

Adderall XR(Extended Release) is safe to be given to a six-year-old. No special precautions need be taken. One dose a day.

Common side effects include:

-loss of appetite and decrease in weight
-abdominal pain
-insomnia
-a headache
-the decline in the rate of growth(height and weight must be monitored every two to three months)

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
