Is Advil Advisable While Having High Blood Pressure?
I HAVE A FRIEND WITH HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE. SHE S BEEN TAKING ADVIL FOR HEADACHES. DR OZ SAID SOMETHING ABOUT HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE & ADVIL. IS IT GOOD OR BAD TO TAKE IT AND WHY. SHE TAKES A BABY ASPIRIN DAILY. I TOLD HER NOT TO DRINK ALCOHOL CAUSE THAT IS BAD FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE TOO. YYYY@YYYY
Hello Advil is an over the counter painkiller which is considered harmless by many people. But what they don't know; that Advil is an Ibuprofen which is a sort of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAIDs). NSAIDs can make the body retain fluid and decrease the function of kidneys. This may cause the blood pressure to rise even higher, putting greater stress on the heart and kidneys. NSAIDs can also raise her risk for heart attack or stroke, especially in higher doses. You are doing right by telling her not to drink alcohol, which can raise her blood pressure and may lead to bleeding from the stomach especially with taking Aspirin.
Hope I answered your question Wish a speedy recovery to your friend Best regards Dr. Noor Farid
