Hi, i am a childcare provider. On of the 5 Yr olds I watch has pin worms. Her and her family all took albenza for treatment/prevention. Recommended I get treated as well. My concern is that I have been trying to conceive and there is a chance I could be in very early stages of pregnancy. I read that albenza us contraindicated for pregnancy. Are there any other medications or alternative treatments for pin worms that would be safer?
Albendazole should not be used in pregnant women except in clinical circumstances where no alternative management is appropriate. Patients should avoid a pregnancy for at least 1 month following cessation of albendazole therapy. If a patient becomes pregnant while taking this drug, albendazole should be discontinued immediately.
