Is Aleve The Right Method Of Treatment For Osteoarthritis?

Aleve is the best pain manager for my osteoarthritis. I had a situation several years ago with stomach bleeding that was due to my taking aleve, mobic and aspirin. I m off of all three and in pain. Could I take Aleve if I ground it into a powder and put it under my tongue for a more direct absorption into the blood stream ( bypass the stomach)?

Yes, Aleve (Naproxen) a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) is found to be effective in relieving the painful joint conditions like osteoarthritis.
However, since you have a history drug induced stomach bleeding in the past, so it is not advisable to take Aleve even in the sublingual (beneath the tongue) because it gets absorbed directly into the systemic circulation and hence there's a high risk of inflammation of the stomach, ulcer or bleeding to occur.
These harmful effects of Naproxen can be avoided if you take an acid suppressant like proton pump inhibitor (Pantoprazole) of a H2 receptor blocker like Ranitidine along with it.

These side effects can also be prevented if you take selective COX-2 inhibitors like Itoricoxib instead of Naproxen. Selective COX-2 inhibitors are safe and equally effective in the treatment of osteoarthritis.
