Hi, My 9 month old has been having runny nose for almost 3 months and has cough from few days. Doctor had given relent + which did not help. Later gave Allegra for the runny nose, 3 days course, it made very subtle difference in little ones condition. Now has prescribed Allegra for the runny nose, sorentis junior and monticope for the cough. My question is is this safe? Especially monticope seeing that bub is 9 month old?
Yes, Allegra (fexofenadine) is safe for use in infants less than 1-year-old. The dosage for infants is 2.5 ml of 6mg/ml suspension twice daily. The medication can cause tiredness, irritability, and sleepiness in infants.
Hope this answers your question Please let me know if you need further clarifications Regards Dr.Lekshmi
