Is Amox-clav Tablet Harmful With The History Of Allergy To Pencillin?

MY DOCTOR (PCP) PRESCRIBED AMOX-CLAV 875MG TABLES FOR ME TO TREAT AN IRRITATION RASH AROUND MY MOUTH...JUST INSIDE THE LIPS WHERE A MUSTASCH MEETS A GOTEE OR BEARD. I HAVE BEEN ALLERGIC TO PENNACILLIN ALL OF MY LIFE ( I AM 67), MY DOCTOR AND I DISCUSSED THIS, I TOLD HIM THAT ON OTHER OCASIONS WHERE I NEEDED AN ANTI-BIOTIC DRUG, USUALLY MY DENTIST WOULD PRESCRIBE AMPICALLIN. SHOULD I HAVE ANY WORRIES OR CONCEARNS TAKING THIS AMOX-CLAV 875MG TABLETS.\?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain as you are advised to take Amox-clav combination that contains Amoxicillin that is a Penicillin group of antibiotic while Penicillin and Ampicillin are also both belongs to Penicillin group..

At times if you are allergic to any one antibiotic of a group then it is not necessary that you will be allergic to other antibiotic also, so there is a possibility that you might be compatible with amoxicillin..

But to be on a safer side I would suggest you to consult an Allergist and get evaluated.
He can do allergic tests to look for the medications that you might be allergic to and give you a list of safer antibiotics too..
As of now consult your doctor and discuss with him so that he can advise you to take ampicillin as you are not allergic to it..
