Is Amoxicillin Sandoz 1000mg Too High A Dose For An 85-year-old Patient?
I have just left hospital to continue treatment for Right lung Pneumonia the doctor has prescribed Amoxycillin Sandoz 1000 mg Tablets twice a day for 5 days He also prescribed Doxycycline 100 mg twice daily my age is 85 years . I am very worried of the high dosage of Amoxycillin.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Usual adult dose for Pneumonia is 500 mg orally 3 times a day or 875 mg orally twice a day may be administered for 7 to 10 days if pneumococcal pneumonia is suspected. Only mild pneumonia due to pneumococcus should be treated with amoxicillin. Dosage depends on the nature of infection and not pertaining to age. Hence, kindly take the prescribed medications and do the necessary follow-up with your doctor. Hope this helps. Regards., Dr.Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
