Is Amoxicillin Advisable Prior To Tooth Extraction?
I am going to the dentist to have my last molar, #31, I think. He has not mentioned taking any Antibiotics prophetically. I have a metal cage in my Cervical #6-7, and also a new right total knee put in 2 years ago. I have always been told to take meds prior to teeth removal. I do have Amoxicillian pink and blue and it says 45 on the side. What would you suggest? Thank you for reading this. Cynthia
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it is true that antibiotics can be given pre extraction as a prophylactic treatment but is commonly given if you already have infection in the teeth.. In that case antibiotics are given in order to reduce infection and also prevent the chances of spread of infection.. You can very much take a course of 3 days of antibiotics before you get the extraction done but I would still suggest you to consult your treating dentist and in case if he advise you to take antibiotics considering the condition of your tooth that has to be extracted you can take amoxicillin.. Post extraction, you will have to take antibiotics, so my advise would be that in case if you are only advised to take antibiotics prior to extraction then only you should take otherwise post extraction intake of antibiotics is sufficient..
Hope this information helps..
