Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi doctor.. I have cold and cough from past one week, I took steam inhalation with sinarest vapo capsules and my cold is much better now. Can I take Ascoril LS+ syrup to get rid of my cough. I have a 4 month old baby and I breastfeed him. Please guide me.
Since you are breastfeeding a 4 month baby you should better avoid any preparations which say not safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Many medicines have not been evaluated well for their safety in babies on breastfeeding. Hence, better to avoid Ascoril LS syrup. You are getting better with steam inhalation. You can certainly take paracetamol in proper dose and duration as anti-inflammatory to get early results.
Use Otrivin like nasal drops for cold, rhinitis and congestion before steam inhalation. Consult a Pediatrician for safety of any medicines for your baby. If there are other symptoms like fever or constitutional symptoms or yellow and green mucus then you may need a prescription based antibiotic too.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
