Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi Doctor, My child has been having dry cough from past four days, last night her paediatrician has prescribed asthalin nebulization for her, she is 1.9 years and weighs 10 kgs. What are the side effects of asthalin on children of her age and is it safe to give nebulization?
Hi & Welcome. Asthalin (Salbutamol) nebulizer is given to relieve the wheezing caused by bronchospasm due to allergy or bronchial asthma. It is absolutely safe for the young infants. It is a short acting drug and when given through nebulizer it predominantly acts on the airways smooth muscles (in the lungs) so less likely to cause other side effects like oral medications. However, it may cause increased heart beats, tremors in some children on prolonged use. Hope this answers your query. A feed back is appreciated.
