Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 37 years old man. I have HBP 140/90. Yesterday, doctor has prescribed me Aten 25 for same. Earlier I have never taken any medicine for HBP. Just two weeks ago doctor said that I have HBP and for that I need to take medicine. Should I start to take Aten 25 from now?
You should consider starting the medication as prescribed by your doctor. It would help to reduce your bp to within normal range.
In addition to the use of medication, you should initiate lifestyle changes such as increased physical activity and a change in diet.. Your diet should be low salt and you should also try to use at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables.
I hope this helps

Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Divakara's Response
Hi
Thanks for posting your query.
BP of 140 is high for your age , but it doesn't warrant immediate treatment with medicines . In my practice I check BP for 3 times on 3 different occasion and all 3 readings are high I would consider my patient as having high BP .
Even after diagnosing a patient as hypertensive I will not start medicines straight away for a BP of 140. I advise low salt diet and aerobic exercise minimum 15 minutes every day . If inspire of 2 months of diet and exercise BP is maintained 140 or more I would start medication .
Hope you find my answer useful .
Any clarification feel free to ask.
