Is BENADONE 40,AKT-4 And LIV-52 (drops)safe For Treated TB?

Hello Doctor, My Dad is 64 yrs and has recently been diagnosed with TB. He was prescribed with RIMACTAZID, ETHAMBUTOL, ZENFLOX and MUCAINE GEl by a TB specialist. He has been taking these medications for the past 2 weeks. But now he has got itching Skin, No Sleep, No appetite, when he eats then feels like throwing up. He has been taking other medications prescribed by his Physician for his blood pressure and sugar. He suggests that these medications are too strong for him and suggested another set of medications: BENADONE 40, AKT-4 and LIV-52 (drops). Do you think these new medication would be better for him or what should he do?

Hi,

To satisfy your dad psychologically, this may be all ok. If he feels that by changing the prescription, he is comfortable. Otherwise, of course, new prescription is not having Zenflox which is an antibiotic. However, this new prescription is having an additional anti T.B. drug of pyrazinamide (Now, it is a combination of 4 anti T.B. drugs in place of 3).

Most of the unwanted side effects may be due to Rimactazid, which is a combination of two drugs, which are also present in new prescription. However in place of Zenflox, revised treatment is having pyrazinamide, which may also be having above unwanted symptoms. Hence both the prescriptions do not seem to have some beneficial effect on each other.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
