Is Benicar The Right Medicine For High Blood Pressure?

howdy- I am 80 yr old male, high blood pressure, taking Benicar 20mg, 1/2 am. 1/2 pm, also dipyridamole 20mg 1/2am, 1/2 pm.. also on beta blocker, stopped that 3 mos ago, had triple by pas 5yrs ago, perfusion study one yr ago, good results; recently my BP has been elevated 145/80, HR 60-70. I have AV nodal blockage and Right branch bundle block, started last yr, that s why the beta blocker was dropped. doctor prescribed hydrochloridothiazide 12.5 mg this week, on 2nd day my HR is 90 most of day... my Na and k levels are normal, do you think the Water pill might be causing the elevated HR... thank you

Hello,

Benicar helps in reducing the blood pressure but a combination of medicines is a better option for you considering the cardiac status. Stopping the beta blocker can increase the heart rate.
