Is Benzonatate Effective For Severe Cough And Allergies?
I have a cold simultaneously with allergies. I ve been taking allegra in the morning and 25 mg of benadryl at night. the cough is out of control leading to fits of coughing which sometimes bring me close to vomiting. also I ve been using the neti pot, sucrets and drowning myself in tea. Can I take benzonatate. Found it in the closet from when I had the flu. YYYY@YYYY
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Benzonatate is a non-narcotic cough suppressant. It works in the airway and lungs to reduce the cough reflex. This helps to relieve cough. Since you are already taking Allegra and Beadryl, you may not require to take this medication. If necessary, you can take syrup containing Ambroxol or Bromhexine. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
