Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my gynaec has suggested me to take betamethasone injection 2 doses. i am currently 31 weeks pregnant (prima gravida). all my other reports (TIFFA, growth scan at week 30) are normal and i had no complications in my pregnancy. I am also not a risk of preterm labour. My question is, do i need to take the steroid injection or will it bring unnecessary complications?and are the benefits of taking the injection higher than the side effects of it for normal pregnancy like mine?
Hi I think in a normal pregnancy, there is no definite role of betamethasone injection but some doctors use it empirically. You can't predict the risk of premature delivery at this time. So, if due to any reason, it happens, then it is beneficial to take the injection. It will not cause any complications if you are not diabetic. Talk to your doctor regarding this. Hope it helps.
