Is Betnesol Injection Safe To Have During Last Trimester?
Hello Doctor, I am 31 weeks pregnant. I have received betnesol injection at 24th week 12mg + 12 mg (in a gap of 1 day). Now at 31st week , my Doctor is asking for repeating of Betnesol injection 12mg+12mg (1 day gap). Further in case of emergency, doctor might give one more doze of betnesol. That means i might end up having 3 times dozes of betnesol (i.e 24th week, 31st week , emergency situation) MY QUERY Is it safe to take this many dozes of Betnesol Injection ? Is there any side effects? Read on net that high dozes can have effect on babies health such as learning disability etc
Betnesol is given when pre-term labor is likely and this to help the lungs of the baby to mature. It does pose risk as it goes through the placenta and a gynecologist should take this decision and up to three doses can be given.
In your case, because it is a gynecologist that is deciding this and you are likely to get up to three doses, I think it is best to follow the advice so that the lungs of the baby mature well.
I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
