Is Brilinta A Good Alternative Of Effient?

I have 2 Stents for PAD - one in L iliac artery and one in R renal artery, and have had 4 vessel CABG. Have been taking Effient for several years (anaphylaxis to Plavix) but can not afford any longer. My insurance will cover Brilinta at a reasonable cost. What are the chances; considering my allergy to Plavix, that I can change to Brilinta w/o having a reaction?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

effient( prosugrel ) and brlinta ( ticagrelor ) both are anti platletes that work inhibit clot formation , they belong to same group of drugs and the two can be used interchangeably for avoiding stent closure after stent placement. sp you can use brillinta , after stents placement brilinta is even preferred over effient. I cant be predicted about reaction on basis of reaction to plavix, as plavix and brilinta are from different groups...so you can start it with care, rashes can occur but anphylxis is not common with brinilta.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
