Is Buspar An Effective Drug For Parkinson S Disease?
I have Parkinson s for about two years I currently do not take any of the Parkinson s medication sinemet. I don t suffer from shaking that much but I do seem to suffer from a lot of anxiety. I was prescribed .5 mg Klonopin, also tried Valium both seemed to help but I m afraid to keep taking them a long time basis. So I tried Buspar but it seems to exaggerates my Parkinson s and make me feel out of body and out of my mind is this possible with this drug?
Buspar (buspirone) is an anti-anxiety medicine. It is used to treat symptoms of anxiety, such as fear, tension, and irritability etc. It will not relieve any symptom of Parkinson’s disease. But it will allay your anxiety. It is not exacerbating your Parkinson’s disease. Exacerbation is due to uncontrolled disease because you have stopped taking anti-Parkinson’s medicines. Parkinson’s disease is a chronic neurological condition due to defect in neurotransmission. It needs life-long treatment with anti-Parkinson’s medicines. I suggest you to consult your neurologist for further treatment. In mean time you can take Buspar if you have anxiety symptoms. All the best!!
