Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Ceftin Appropriate For Treating Sinus, Ear Infections And Throat Closure?
History of sinus, ear infections and throat closure at least once yearly, Tried over the counter allergy meds and an inhaler from a previous episode. Works temporarily. My Dr will not be in till next week, one of his associates prescribed ceftin. Never had before. Would this be appropriate.
Hello, Thanks for the query. Antiallergics, inhalers do help in relieving certain respiratory symptoms temporarily. However, if there is bacterial (Streptococcal) infection then there is a need for an antibiotic for at least 5 to 6 days, then only throat infection will be cleared. You may also use hot water with salt for gargling which will enhance the relief. Ceftin is the right drug, should clear the infection, but should be taken for at least 5 to 6 days. Thanks.
