Is Cephalexin Safe To Consume In Lesser Dosage Over Longer Periods?

I was prescribed cephalexin cap 500 mg 3 times a day for 10 days for severe sinus infection. Due to previous allergic reactions to antibiotics, I reduced dose to 2 times a day for 10 days. Is it safe to continue for 5 more days at 2 times a day to make up for reduced dose?

Hi. Its always advisable to take up the antibiotics as prescribed by the physician.
You have not mentioned details about the previous allergic reaction. Did it happen to the same drug or a drug similar to the present drug are the details that are important.
For now, if you have finished the 10 day course of cephalexin 500mg 2 times a day and if your sinus infection has subsided. I would not suggest for another 5 day treatment. And the 10 day course indicates that you don not have allergy to cephalexin.
One thing to remember is the drug allergies have to be mentioned to consultants so that they avoid such drugs or use at low doses.
Hope this helps. Thank you.
