Is Cepodem Advisable For A Child With WBC Count Of 3200?
My son was suffering from viral fever for six days. For last 3 days he was given azithral 200along with pricing after that no fever from 7th day but he is given cepodem 100 for 5 days for 2 times a day and today is 4th day while taking cepodem but no fever. Is it ok and safe to take this dose for the prescribed period since his WBC count was 3200 during the fever. Kindly suggest.
If your son did have a viral illness, and it does appear that he did give the WBC count (which should be high with bacterial infections), he would not need antibiotics like cepodem.
However, since I don't know all of the situations and he has already started them, I would complete the 5-day course. If he doesn't improve or gets worse, I would reevaluate him at that time.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
