Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i am an adult who lives at home with parents and a younger brother. i was diagnosed with chlamydia and treated. is there any risk to them from sharing a bathroom, etc, because things like urine can accidentally get on the toilet seat and so forth? should they be told/tested or is it not an issue?
Hello , Welcome to healthcaremagic.com and thanks for sharing your concern with us. Toilet seats are not a common vehicle for transmission of STD. Most of the microorganisms survive for a very less time on surfaces and eventually get killed on its own . If we talk about chlamydia then this micro organism will have to be transferred from toilet seat to urethra , genitals , cut on skin which is theoretically possible but practically very unlikely. No one has acquired STD from toilet seat until or unless sexual activity is not performed on toilet seat . I would suggest you to clean toilet seats after using and follow general hygienic instructions well like hand washing , cleaning toilet after use which is enough to ruleout any such possibility .
I wish you good health . Best Regards, DR.S.TOMAR
