Is Chromium Supplement Advisable For High Blood Sugars While Suffering With Fatty Liver?

Hello Doc. my personal physician asked me to stop taking multi vitamin cuz I have fatty liver and possibly other issues with my liver. I am not taking any meds for the Type 1 diabetes. I have been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. I also have HBP and take Lozartan. To make matters worse I have gall-stones, high cholesterol and am overweight. I heard that taking supplement Cinnamon with Chromium can help lower blood sugars. Is it ok if I take this supplement with current liver issues? thank you

Hi,

It would be best to speak to your doctor retreatment of diabetes and high cholesterol. Controlling these tightly would prevent further changes to the liver.

In terms of the cinnamon and Chromium supplement, if these are cleared by the liver then you should not use them. High doses of Chromium supplement can affect the liver, so it may be best to not to use it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
