Is Claravis Advisable For Loss Of Appetite And Stomach Discomfort?
hi my son is 24 yrs old and recently started losing weight unintentionally and he has a loss of appetite but when he does eat right after his meal he says he feels like someone punched him in his stomach. He does use a lot of hot sauce on his food and he likes spicy foods also he did take claravis which is a generic form of Accutane and I read it can lead to long term adverse side effects of irritable bowl or gastro intestinal problems even crohn s disease

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
I feel 2 probable causes for his present problems. - His eating spicy food & hot spices can cause acid peptic disease leading to stomach pain, digestive problems and weight loss. - The medicine he takes for acne (Calvaria) is known to create pancreatic problems which can cause the symptoms. Please consult a gynecologist for pin pointing the cause followed by specific treatment. As a personal care let him start taking bland diet, stop taking hot, spicy and fat rich food.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
