Is Clexane The Right Medicine For Uterine Clotting?
Hello doctor. I am being prescribed clexane to prevent uterine clotting after ivf embryo transfer. (I have a gene variant which can cause clotting and cause miscarriage and clexane had been proved to help). My clinic are not familiar with prescribing clexane for this problem, but have prescribed 1 x 40mg injection per day. Should this be enough to stop clotting? I'm not sure how long the effects of each injection of clexane lasts for? And also how long does it take before clexane starts to work from the initial injection? I haven't started taking it yet and have my transfer booked in for a week today. I'm planning to start taking the day before embryo transfer. Is that soon enough? Many thanks.
From the information you have provided, it looks like you have one of the hereditary thrombophilia, which are known to increase chances of miscarriages whether you get pregnant naturally or by IVF.
Clexane is known to decrease chances of miscarriage due to this reason and is routinely given to women with this condition. Clexane is a very safe to take and will not harm you or the baby. You will need to learn to take the injection yourself as it has to be taken once daily in pregnancy.
If you have excess bleeding or start getting labor pain then you should stop the Clexane and see your doctor immediately. The effect of Clexane starts almost immediately and lasts upto 24 hours, so you need to take it daily.
Do not worry, this will be a good time to start Clexane after the embryo transfer.
