Is Clindamycin Advisable For Poison Ivy In A Child?
My 4 1/2 yr old grandson has many alleriges,,his Mom said he had poisin ivy..and took him to the drs. Which no one has seen the paperwork not diagnosis..he was put on Clindamycin 75mg/5ml soln Also Clindamycin Palmitate,,hydrochloride is on the box. I am questioning if this is a typical med to give for poisin ivy as it looks like big round raw spots. Not any Ivy I have ever see in my 66 yrs.
Clindamycin is an antibiotic used for treating infections caused by susceptible bacteria. Poison ivy rash is caused by an allergic reaction to an oily resin found in the leaves, stems and roots of poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac. Generally, this condition is self limited and does not require any treatment as the rash typically goes away on its own in 2 to 3 weeks. However, if a bacterial infection has developed at the rash site, the treating doctor may prescribe antibiotic ointment like Clindamycin oral solution.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
