Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Cytotec contains
Misoprostol, which is used to prevent stomach ulcers while you take NSAIDs like
aspirin or if you are at risk for developing ulcers.
It could be also used to induce
abortion for pregnancies under 10 weeks.
However, it is recommended to be used strictly under medical supervision.
Using Misoprostol alone to cause an abortion will be successful 90% of the time. If it is not effective the first time, you need to try again after 3 days.
Standard recommendations of its use is as follows:
You need 12 tablets of Misoprostol.
To cause an abortion, you must put 4 pills of of 200 micrograms (total of 800 mcg) Misoprostol under the tongue. Do not swallow the pills at least until 30 minutes after putting the tablets under the tongue.
After 3 hours you should put another 4 pills of Misoprostol under the tongue.
After 3 hours she should put another 4 pills of Misoprostol under the tongue again for the third time. Do not swallow.
After the first dose of Misoprostol, you could expect bleeding and cramps. Bleeding mostly starts within four hours after using the pills, but sometimes later. If the abortion continues, bleeding and cramps become more severe. Longer the
pregnancy, the more heavy the cramps and the bleeding will be. If the abortion is complete, the bleeding and the cramps diminish.
It is essential to get a
ultrasound scan done after 10 to 14 days to make sure that all the products of conception have been expelled out completely.
If no bleeding occurs after the third dose, you can to try it again after a couple of days or get the abortion done by surgical means.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
