Is Demerol Effective In The Treatment Of Knee Pain?
I am planning on full knee replacement very shortly and i want to know about pain management and asking my doctor to give me Demerol for pain. I don t like to take hydrocodone of any kind it makes me feel bad but Demerol just makes me dizzy and sleepy. I feel Demerol is the best way manage my pain for at least 3 to 4 days. What is your take?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I can understand your problem, pain should generally be managed according to the ladder pattern of the pain that is going from the low drugs to more potent drugs if not working. Here what I generally would advise, that you start using paracetamol 2 tab four to six times with some ice packing the knee, if this works for you this is the best thing and safest way, if it does not work for you, I advise people to take Brufen for short time, if no kidney or gastric problem, if any problem with NSaids then yes you can use Demerol, which belongs to opiods and must be taken with prescription and with all the care.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
